SaaS

Software as a Service

SaaS (Software as a Service) is a cloud-based software distribution model. Instead of buying a perpetual license, installing the program on company servers, and handling its maintenance (traditional On-Premise model), the customer subscribes to the service and accesses the application through the Internet.

It is the current standard for most modern business tools, from email to CRMs, and of course, advanced CMMS.

SaaS vs. On-Premise: Key Comparison

For a municipality or service company, choosing SaaS has clear strategic advantages:

  • Initial Costs (CAPEX vs OPEX): The On-Premise model requires a large initial investment in servers, licenses, and IT staff. SaaS works like a monthly rental (operational expense), eliminating the entry barrier.
  • Updates: In the old model, updating software was a painful and expensive project that happened every two years. In SaaS, updates are automatic and transparent; you always have the latest version with new security features.
  • Accessibility: On-Premise software is usually "locked" within the office network. SaaS is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, vital for mobile teams.
  • Data Security: Professional SaaS providers typically have cybersecurity measures and backups far superior to what an SME or small municipality can maintain on their own.

Scalability and Flexibility

The SaaS model allows you to grow at the pace of your needs. You can start managing a small municipality with two users and, if you win a new tender, expand to ten users and three new municipalities in minutes, without buying new hardware.
